Did Wargrave get it right? Week of 9/22/08
In his confessional letter, Wargrave claims that he killed off the guests in the order of their crime (from least to worst -- with the exception of Marston who was incapable of feeling guilt). Do you think his calculations were correct? Or, would you have arranged the murders in a different order? Explain and support your response.

I think that Emily Brent should have died second, because she actually was not involved directly with Beatrice Taylor's death.Mrs. Rogers, General Wargrave, and Mr. Rogers on the other hand all directly caused the death of their victims. Emily Brent did not actually kill the girl directly, unlike the others. Beatrice Taylor suicided on her own, and all Emily Brent had done was fire her. Mrs. Rogers and Mr. Rogers witheld Jennifer Brady's medicine to kill her, and General MacArthur sends Arthur Richmond one a death mission. They directly cause the deaths of other people, while Emily Brent only indirectly caused Beatrice Taylor's death.
I would have changed the order of some of the murders. I think Wargrave made the right decision in killing Marston first so I would have left that. However I do feel that Emily Brent's death should not have been held out so long. Though she did cause the Beatrice to commit suicide, she did not physically kill her herself. I think that it was right for General MacArthur to be killed early on. He sent people on missions that they would probably get killed in, but he did not commit the murders himself. Other people on the island that physically committed murder themselves were Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. They withheld medicine from an employer just so they could inherit money. These are the things i would have kept and changed.
i think that killing Mrs. Rogers early was a good idea, because she didn't really do anything horrible and wouldn't feel scared like the others. killing Marston was also smart because he had the ability to find the murderer. i agree with corinna... Emily should have died sooner. i don't think that she did anything important to the plot. Armstrong was important so killing him arfter Wargrave did everything with him was a good idea in my opinion. all the other murderers i think made the story interesting and very suspenseful.
I liked the order that Wargrave killed them regardless of how bad the crimes they had commit were because if he had killed them in a different order, the outcome would have been different and he might have been unsuccessful. For instance, if he left Lombard alone to hang himself, it probably wouldn't have happened. I don't think Lombard is unstable enough to do that but on the other hand, Vera was. Wargrave was very clever and wise enough to pick them in the order that he did.
