Most Evil

As you read And Then There Were None, you will find yourself judging the character's actions, both present and past. Who in your opinion is the most evil character or has committed the most heinous acts? Be certain to support your response with textual details. DON'T GIVE AWAY THE ENDING!!!

In my opinion, Vera Claythorne is the most evil of the characters. She kills Cyril, a boy she was governess to, and then she gets lauded on her attempt to save him when in all actuality she had planned out his murder. She let him attempt to swim out to a rock in the sea even though she knew he was not strong enough, and then she pretends to try and save him.

I think Blore is the most evil, because he deliberatly killed a group of people and told everyone without feeling guilty. Unlike Vera, Blore killed a whole group of people to save himself. Vera Claythorne killed Cyril for someone else.

Elisha: Do you mean Lombard?

Oh yes I'm sorry I always get that confused.

I also think Phillip Lombard is the most evil of the characters. He leaves twenty-one civilians to die and admits it without feeling any guilt. He shows no remorse for his past actions and is therefore, in my opinion, the most evil.

Elisha: LOL. Not very surprising given the number of character names in all of your summer reading books!
So, ladies, who is worse: Vera or Philip Lombard?

Lombard. Even with his present actions, he is more evil than Vera. Vera seems so innocent. She is constantly feeling guilty, and always gets flashbacks of the day that Cyril died.

I believe Anthony Marston was the most evil, because he ran over John and lucy Combes. He had no guilt and remained to be a reckless driver. Mr.Marston just said it was an accident but if he wasnt speeeding John and Lucy Combes would have been alive.

I haven't finished the book yet, but from what I have read so far, I agree with Amelia and Elisha. I think that people should feel guilty about their actions, especially hurting an innocent person. Lombard killed more than any of the group, and he feels the least guilt. I also think that Justica Wargrave is evil, because he is a judge and supposed to be fair, but he convicts an obviously innocent man based on past experiences/feelings of the man.

Personally I feel that each character is equally evil. The number of people that one killed should not decide how evil they are. I believe more that the rational behind the murder is the decider. Yet since i must decide i also agree that Vera is the most evil. She deliberately set Cyril to a most certain death just to impress her love interest. Vera deserves the guilt upon Cyril's death was due to a selfish act.

I believe that all the charaters are evil for committing murder. One murder to me is equal to 10 murders. But, Vera, to me, is the most evil. She sent Cyril to his death because she knew her true love would inherit all his money.

I think that Mr. and Mrs. Rogers are the most evil. They withheld medicine from a woman so that she would die and they could get their inheritance. The woman was helpless and she depended on them, which made it easier for them to kill her.

Vera seems innocent, but that is why she is so evil. She was able to twist it so that it seemed like she was just trying to save Cyril, and that she had nothing to do with him swimming out to the rock. The other characters were all under suspicion for their crimes, whereas Vera was thought to have tried to save the person she was killing.

I agree with Justin that Anthony Marston is the most evil. Even though he and Lombard had relatively similar crimes I think the fact that he hit two young children, felt no remorse, and continued to drive incautiously.

General Macarthur is also very evil because he sent someone who his wife really liked to certain death. He even admits that he doesn't feel sorry. He could have just tried to work things out instead of killing the man who gave his wife joy.

I had already read the book but while i was reading it i agreed with Amelia and thought that Vera was innocent and that Lombard was very evil.
