FACEBOOK STATUS and MORE!

One final shot for extra credit / B-squares.
Please post your Oedipus Facebook status comments....and any superlatives, clubs, etc. for your yearbook that you are particularly proud of.

You may extend this thread to include composing Facebook statuses for non-Oedipus characters, possible screen names for our literary and mythological characters, or any other modernization of the texts that would be appropriate for our literary yearbook. This is actually a fun way to review for the final exam!

I look forward to reading your posts :-)
(PS: If you have already put your Oedipus Facebook status on the "Random Musings" thread, you don't need to repeat it here).

Advice for the Class of 2013

While I cannot invite you into the 8th grade classrooms, you know how much I value your opinions and experience in the class. What would you like to advise (or warn!) your 8th grade peers? Any tips for handling summer reading? How can they learn from your successes and mistakes?
Please remain appropriate! (Oh...and Nick, please try not to insult me too much, ok? :-) )

Romeo: Tragic Hero or "Fortune's Fool"

As promised, here is a place to play with the topic of the final essay. Shakespearean scholars still debate if Romeo is a pawn of fortune or a victim of his own tragic flaws (just pick one of the many!)

So, which is it? Don't forget to provide support. Your ideas may change as we proceed further in the play.

The Jurassic Blogosaurus

The Romantic elements of Jekyll and Hyde and Jurassic Park.
I realize that everyone is stressing about the thematic comparison between Jekyll and Hyde and Jurassic Park. Here is a forum for you to collaborate with one another and to ask questions / brainstorm/ formulate arguments and debates as you prepare to write the essay. Have fun, scholars! I'm really looking forward to reading these :-)

RANDOM MUSINGS #4 (the last one :-( )

Questions about an assignment? An unfinished debate from class? Something you wish to share? This is the place!

Wow...I cannot believe we are in the final quarter. This year has been flying by so quickly; I'm getting very sad!!!!

English 9H and Harry Potter

J.K. Rowlings' series borrows from universal themes, concepts, archetypes, and myths. Use this thread to discuss any connections you find between the Harry Potter series and the many characters and works of literature we have studied this year. Don't forget about how her mythological allusions enhance the characterization of her cast.

TWILIGHT!

I give up! Since we seem to be connecting Twilight (and the rest of the series) to class curriculum every single day, let's be serious about it. Use this thread to:
* find thematic and characterization connections to the literature we cover in class
* compare Edward, Bella, Jacob, etc. to the characters we have encountered this year.
* discuss the characters, themes, plot developments, and possibilities within the series itself.
* compare the book to the film.
Did I miss anything?
