Rainsford certainly discovers "how a jaguar feels", but does he truly learn anything from his experiences on Ship Trap Island? Is he a dynamic or a static character? Please support your view with concrete details from the text.
Rainsford's views change about how an animal being hunted feels. He didn't care how a jaguar must feel as it was being hunted. He says that jaguars have no understanding. After being a huntee himself on Ship Trap Island, he understands the perspective of a hunted animal and the fear it experiences. Therefore, Rainsford is a dynamic character.
Rainsford is dynamic because before he meets the (in my point of view) psyco general, he has no feelings for the jaguars he hunts. But, after he has been the hunted, he understands the suspense and fear the animals feel not knowing what could be heading their way. p.s. that story was awsome!
I would have to agree with both amelia and melissa in Rainsford is a dramatic character. In the beginning he looks foward to the hunt and believs the animal he hunts has no emotions. By the end he understands what an animal goes through being hunted and close to defenseless.
I also agree that Rainsford is a dynamic character because when he is being hunted he learns what it is like for the jaguars. From being hunted Rainsford changes. On page twenty-four in the textbook Rainsford is panicing and he says he must keep his nerve. Then on page twenty-six Rainsfrod runs in fear. From this experiance Rainsford has changed.
Rainsford is definetly a dynamic character. His change occurs generally while he is being hunted, specifically when it says on page 27 "Rainsford knew now how an animal at bay feels". He understands that hunted animals do understand the fear of pain and death, as Whitney was trying to tell him.
Rainsford is definitely a dynamic character. At the beginning of the story Rainsford claims that animals do not have emotions and that they can not feel anything when they are being hunted. After being General Zaroff's quarry he comes to the conclusion that jaguars and other prey have feelings while they are being hunted.
I agree with everyone that Rainsford is a dynamic character. In the beginning he can't percieve that the "huntees" would have any feeling. He thinks they are just animals. But once he goes through it himself he sees waht it's like and experiences the fear they go through.
I think that Rainsford is a dynamic character because he claims in the beginning of the story that animal huntees have no feelings of pain or fear, but by the end of the book, he realizes that he himself is an animal and can wind up being the huntee.
I agree with everyone. Rainsford is a dynamic character. In the beginning, he is an avid hunter who does not really care about the animal. After being hunted, Rainsford realizes how awful it feels to be in that position. His views on hunting completely changed.
I would say that Rainsfor is a dynamic character because he changes throughout the story. He goes from believing that animals have no feelings, to believing that animals can feel just about every feeling that people can feel. People are animals too.
Rainsford is a dynamic character because at the start of the novel he didnt think the hunt had feeling but then the texts says something about how Rainsford now understands about how a beast at bay feels. which would classify him as a dynamic character.
Rainsford is a dynamic character. this is because in the beginning of the story, Rainsford felt that animals didn't have feelings and didn't really care how they felt. however, when Rainsford actually became the prey. he saw things from a different perspective.
I think that Rainsford should be characterized as a static character. At the beginning of the short story, he claims that animals have no feelings (regarding that he is a fellow animal). After he experiences the horrible feeling of being hunted, you would think his feelings would be changed. But instead he goes on to fight Zaroff to the death.
I do think that Rainsford is a dynamic character, but is also a static character in some respects. A static character is by definition, a literary character who undergoes little or no inner change. While he is dynamic with his views of the hunting and the hunted, he is completely static in that he never seemed to not know what to do in a situation, his animal-like instincts, and his will to adapt and overcome any situation thrown his way.

I think Rainsford is dynamic because he learns a major lesson, the general is merley there to teach it to him in a sick twisted way.
