I think that humans have their moments of savage qualities. The whole Zaroff-hunting-people situation is most definately savage. And hunting as a sport in general is somewhat barbaric so i guess that humans and animals are equally as savage.

well, I believe neither humans nor animals are more savage than the other. Hunting animals is a way of life for humans, wether it be for food, ivory and such, rugs, or even just for game. animals are savage by the way they live. Even animals hunt animals, thats not extremly different from humans hunting as game because animals don't have to kill animals, they can eat fruits, berrys, plants and whatnot, so it really cant be detirmined who is more savage

I think that people are more savage than animals because they have reason. When a person decides to kill a human, they have put thought into it. Animals on the other hand do not think twice about killing to get what they need. Animals act on instinct alone for survival. This is why Zaroff chooses to hunt humans. He knows humans are harder, and more challenging to hunt. Humans are able to reason to get what they want.

i also think what Katherine is saying is right. We, as humans, have the ability to think and control out actions... however animals kill on their instict to survive... that's why i think that humans are a bit more savage that animals. although animals also have their moments of savagness

I agree with Amelia. Humans have their moments where they can be just as, if not more, savage then animals. You definetly see this with General Zaroff and his twisted version of hunting. I think, at times, animls may even be less savage than humans because although they do not have reason, they have innnocense. Animals do not always understand what is going on which makes them, in a way, less savage then humans.

I completely agree with Katherine and Yena that people are more savage. People have the ability to think, speak, and reason. We also have enough knowledge to create other forms of food than animals. Animals don't have that choice. Their only way of survival is by killing other animals that can't reason. However, I also agree with Amelia about how barbaric hunting is. Especially Zaroff's form of hunting.

I believe that inside every human there is an animal that just needs to be triggered. Animals are not savage unless they need to be inable to survive. We, the humans can be pushed to savageness. So either way we both have the inner savage just waiting to explode like Rainsford's did when he killed Zaroff.

I think that a person could be more savage than an animal. Some humans are much more savage than animals because they kill for self pleasures. However many humans do not kill or harm anything. As a whole though I think humans are more savage. Animals do things to survive. Humans can survive with out hunting for fun. Also, humans are the reason that our planet is in the shape it is now. Humans can reason, but maybe if we could not reason we would be less savage and a better species.

Humans and animals are both savage. As Nick said, animals kill animals, and we do not think of it as strange. However, as soon as we learn that the General hunts humans, we think he is a pyscho! There's really no true difference if you think about it. One species killing another one of their kind. Animals and humans are both living creatures. Still, in "The Most Dangerous Game", humans are portrayed as more savage.

I dont think we can determine who is more savage in this situation. Human beings may be normally civilized while animals are normally instinctal and primal, both have moments where the opposite comes out in them. In their darkest hour, Humans can turn to hatred and evil, thus loosing their humanity. Animals, in remarkable acts, can become something more to us.

I kind of think that something everyone is forgetting is that people ARE animals. We are a completely different type of animal, but we still are animals. I wouldn't exactly call the trait that some humans have savage though, I think it's more like simple greediness. Animals kill to survive and when they feel like they're in danger. If that was the only time a human killed, than it would be okay. When people hunt for fun or as sport, are they saying that it's okay to kill them it's for fun? Everyone was getting so upset when Zaroff was hunting humans. Well, Zaroff believes that human life has no significance. When talking to Rainsford he says, " [...] harbors romantic ideas about the value of human life". Zaroff doesn't understand how Rainsford thinks that human lives are so important. Well, if the person hunting the bear thinks that the bear is worthless, than isn't he doing the same thing as Zaroff? Was the man who killed Bambi's mom wrong? Bambi was devestated, but to the hunter the deer was worthless right? Humans can be savage after being in complete danger, but most of the time it's greed and selfishness that a person's action are based on, not savageness. People are animals.

Still, even though I believe Shauna is right in ways, are animals murderers for killing other animals? My cat gets fed every single day, but yet he hunts and kills anyway. And it is not like he even eats them. Is my cat evil? I do not think so. I think one of the primal instincts born into every life is to kill, sadly. Animals fufill that when they have to, or when their impulse suits them, but "civilized" human beings bury these emotions and in turn they become greed, anger, etc. Thus, the differences between evil and natural are further blended.

Most of you are saying something similar to animals attack other animals without thinking but if some one is hunting they really don't think twice, they aren't like "that deer looks friendly I feel bad shooting it." No, they just shoot it. the only thought they use when hunting is how to be stealthy, quiet, quick, and how best to kill the animal. when animals are killing eachother they do the same thing, they use their natural camoflauge to be stealthy, they creep up to be quiet, and then attack quickly. It's same thing humans hunting animals do.

I believe both humans and animals are savage. I believe humans are more savage in which we are destroying the word. We kill for enjoyment and do unecessary things. Animals kill for food or protection and only take whats needed. I believe humans are less noble than animals.

I think humans because animals are only savage when they need to survive but humans do it as extra sources of entertainment or a sick form of a hobby but we humans have what we need to survive and we are still savage, animals need to compete to live.

yes humans are more svage than animals. Animals only take what they need and nothing more, but humans will take a place of all its resources until nothing is left. animals are not a threat to the natural order of things, humans are. as demenstrated by the ever growing reality of Global warming. So yes i do think humans are more savage than animals.

I think that humans and animals are savages. Humans like Zaroff, kill other humans for their enjoyment. Animals kill other animals which is savage. I agree with Amelia. Humans and animals are equally savage.

Katie Yorke said...

I think even though both are savage, the reasoning behind the savgeness is the determining factor. If you have a animal killing another animal for food or protection tha is a different story than murderers walking around the street killing other humans for fun.

melissa colodner said...

I completely agree with Justin and Katie. We are both animals and are both savage. We are savages in our own ways though.

Originally, humans acted exactly like animals and rarley killed each other. Today, modern humans kill others out of things like greed, jealousy, and even pleasure. Animals almost always kill for food or self defense and rarly kill for no reason. This makes humans in a way more savage than animals.

I think that neither animals nor humans can really be described as savage. humans kill animals and animals kill humans. We live in a world where it is survival of the fittest. You cant call a person evil or cruel just because they enjoy hunting; for the most part the their kill isnt put to waste. Humans kill animals, animals kill smaller animals, and those animals kill even smaller animals. Its how the world works. It isnt savage or inhuman its just life.

Elisha McGinnis said...

Humans have reason and animals do not so we should be able to understand when it is wrong to do something such as hunting an innocent person or animal. Zaroff is like an animal because has lost his reason and is a physchopathic.

Tom Higgins said...

I think both animals and humans are savage. Animals hunt other animals and humans also hunt other animals. It might seem though that humans are more savage than animals though. Although animals kill other animals, the ususally don't kill there own kind. Humans on the other hand tend to frequently kill each, like in "The Most Damgerous Game" and anytime sombody murders another person.

Molly O'Hagan said...

Humans are way more savage than animals. I don't think that animals will get together one day and start hunting other animals for fun. However, humans already do that! It is not bad when humans kill animals to survive just like animals do. Therefore, that clearly makes humans more savage.
