I love the picture of your dog, but on the agenda sheet it says the facebook things for oedipus but on the sheet telling you what to do it says that you could do the facebook or a webpage. Which one do you do?
Yena: Yes - just the two short stories (identified in Monday's classwork on the agenda sheet)
Nicole: Gold Star - you're the first to inquire. For anyone interested in the Jekyll and Hyde (Kaplan edition), the ISBN Number is: ISBN-13: 9781419542275
Katie...sorry; I didn't see your first question. You are to select ONE of the two. I called it a "Facebook Journal" just because..., well, just because.
Ok thanks! While on the Barnes and Noble site something popped up about the frankenstein kaplan edition and I remembered you saying something about it in class. Am I going to want to buy it when we read it? Because if i am i would like to just buy it now but I don't know if it has things we would use or that would help me.
hey Miss Arney... the code for the Jekyll and Hyde... is that for everyone??? can i go and use it to? also... is there different types of Jekyll and Hyde? if i go buy one, can it be different from the one you showed us?
Yena, type the code into the barnes and noble website and it will pop up you only need this part9781419542275 it doesnt pop up if you put the beginning in
The Kaplan one is the only one of its kind -- with the vocabulary inside. I will be providing you with another edition if you dont' want to buy this one. Feel free to get it -- even if you wanted to get it sooner and start it before we have to in class. Yena: I'm not sure I understand your question; is there a different edition you would like to get?
no i just wanted to know if i bought a book. if it would be different from the one we would read in school. i'm not so good and finding books with large codes.
Miss Arney... can the Odeipus yearbook be funny like the other yearbook? can it be like oedipus was in the club Finding a Wife (NOT a mom) 101 or How to kill your enemy... not your dad
Katie: Yes. Jackie: You've had a week - this is a journal; more than a homework assignment. I am sorry. Julie: The MAGI are an allusion and a symbol. The necklace itself is symbolic. Those are primarily it.
For the yearbook can we use whatever font we want? Also, do the quotes have to be real (not made up by ourselves) and if so, do we need to put the person who wrote it?
I'm still having trouble with what the essay is about. Are we suppose to put how it relates to reality in the conclusion and put the theme throughout the essay?
Elisha: Look at the outline we created in class. Reality vs illusion is the motif that supports the theme Sophocles is trying to teach. The idea of mimesis is just for the conclusion.
This will be the last post I leave tonight; it still makes me ill to look at the computer and I really need to be in school tomorrow:
The vocab test will be next week. The Oedipus test and essay are due Thursday. There will be a review in class; I have review cards for you. Don't get hung up on the choral odes; they will not really be on the test. You guys are free to come during lunch or after school to use the flashcards -- or use the ones you have made to review for this test.
Miss Arney, i went to Barnes and Noble.com and i typed in the ISBN number into the search bar and it said results cannot be found and i tried everything else...wait didnt you mention another website in class?
Miss Arney, I just realized something about the quote in the introduction of the essay. Does it have to be a quote from Oedipus or can it be any quote that relates to the theme of the play?
Can concrete details be taken from the back-story of Oedipus or do they have to be from the book itself? And do we have to explain where anagnorisis, peripiteia, catharsis, and catastrophe are shown?
Not everyone got the vocab cards back and idk if im ready for the quiz i have reviewed when i looked at the words today i drew blanks could it be monday to give us the weekend to truely know the words and so people can get there cards.
Justin: All of the cards that had names on them were returned; the others are in the "orphan" drawer. In addition, you have the vocab book and the yellow flashcards. You know this test has been coming (and postponed) for several weeks, so I am really do not want to postpone it again.
Okay I am really confused...when is everything due? When are the novel notes and vocab due? I am hearing different due dates from different people haha.
do we have homework in the introduction to shakespeare and shakespearean tragedy? page 7? the prologue of romeo and juleit? are we supposed to do anything with them?
Melissa: Up to question 19 I think (just before Romeo enters) Yena: Absolutely. This should be a letter to me from you and should be a personal experience. Katie: symbols and motifs might go together here: like blindness and sight; truth and light vs darkness and ignorance.
my essay is hilarious (personally- i think). but it's not a personal experience. i would die if this really happened. enjoy!!! you should read the first paragraph when you are collecting the homework. i think you will enjoy it.
ok.... see you tomorrow... ^^* did you read the creative essay yet? let me know when you do. all of the stories i have heard are hilarious so far. the most important thing is to hand in their english homework... who cares about their house burning down or their friends is collapsed in the street... haha... okay... see you tomorrow.
Yep! Melissa it's there right now. The grammar challenge will be posted before the day is through. Thanks for keeping me focused; I've been obsessed with reading and rereading the draft of Midnight Sun online -- I have to refocus on school now!
Miss Arney, Sorry to bother you... I was just wondering if you put up the grammar challenge, because I can't see it and I don't know if it' my computer or it's really not there.
Miss Arney, i am having a lot of trouble with the direct/indirect object homework. i wasa wondering if you could have extra help tomorrow after school...
Miss Arney, Sorry to bother you but would you be able to put a romeo and juliet and jekyll and hyde blog spot because i have some questions and i will probably encounter some more while reading.
I have a question about DR1 for Romeo and Juliet... Are the two characteristics the same for everyone because you said the 2 most obvious, or is it the two most obvious ones to us?
Miss Arney... 2 things... Can you put up a Random Musings Q4 because this one is so far back and is getting really long. Also, can i still buy a video of Sugar, my mom couldnt get out to the lobby during the show and I keep forgetting to ask you in class.

You can make up things for the journal, right?
miss arney...
do we do the novel notes for just the short stories?
not for oedipus?
what was the name or code number of the jeckyll and hyde book?
Katie: Yes; have fun!

do you think thevocab in frankenstein would be worth getting or should i just use the school one?
Wait on the Frankenstein until I know for certain we will have time to read it this year!!!!
no i just wanted to know if i bought a book. if it would be different from the one we would read in school. i'm not so good and finding books with large codes.
Miss Arney...
For the grammar homework tonight, is it predicate verb or predicate adjective?
sorry, Tommy - just got home.
You need to identify if there IS a predicate adjective or a pred noun....some of them just have action verbs (and therefore no pred nouns or adjs)
Thanks
Miss Arney...
can the Odeipus yearbook be funny like the other yearbook? can it be like oedipus was in the club Finding a Wife (NOT a mom) 101 or How to kill your enemy... not your dad
PLEASE make them funny :-)
For the wall are you allowed to abbreviate words like u, nd, b/c?
Miss Arney
Are you allowed to use a homework pass for the facebook journal if you have a lot of other work?
Are there any allusions for magi and necklace?
Katie: Yes.
Jackie: You've had a week - this is a journal; more than a homework assignment. I am sorry.
Julie: The MAGI are an allusion and a symbol. The necklace itself is symbolic. Those are primarily it.
On the journal sheet it says to include at least 10 allusions from oedipus, what are some allusions?
Katie:
I explained in class that this means references to the text -- something that a reader of the story will recognize from the Facebook page.
Do we need to include all of the bullets for the Facebook or Yearbook or can we just pick and choose which to do?
Oh okay thank you
You choose!
For the facebook jounal are we allowed to use 2 hw passes or do we have to do it?
is there going to be any weekly extra credit sometime soon? there hasn't been any since January...
For the yearbook can we use whatever font we want? Also, do the quotes have to be real (not made up by ourselves) and if so, do we need to put the person who wrote it?
do we have to do every bullet on the journal?
melissa: no, we can chose which ones we want to do
do movies go in quotes or get underlined?
If there is a snowday tomorrow, will the oedipus test still be on tuesday?
The Oedipus test will be on Wednesday regardless of school tomorrow or not.
ok thanks
I'm still having trouble with what the essay is about. Are we suppose to put how it relates to reality in the conclusion and put the theme throughout the essay?
by when should we have our jekyl and hyde bools?
Elisha: Look at the outline we created in class. Reality vs illusion is the motif that supports the theme Sophocles is trying to teach. The idea of mimesis is just for the conclusion.
Melissa: We start the book on Thursday.
When is the test on Oedipus? The sub said that we have a quiz or test on Thursday...is that Oedipus or vocab?
Should we be expecting an Oedipus test tomorrow? I'm so confused!
I have the same question.... Is the oedipus test tomorrow or not????????
The Oedipus test is on Thursday. I'm sorry that the sub wasn't clear.
THANK YOUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you miss arney! so the essay is due thursday but when is the vocab test?
wait.... when is the essay due?????????
and when is the vocab test??
sorry i keep commenting... but can you have extra help or the oedipus test to go through some of the study guide quistions and choral odes and stuff?
This will be the last post I leave tonight; it still makes me ill to look at the computer and I really need to be in school tomorrow:
The vocab test will be next week.

what paragraph are we supposed to put mimesis in and is the last paragraph supposed to include a real example...historical, fictional, or present day?
Miss Arney, how do we get the Jekyl and Hyde books? Do we order them offline, cuz I don't think mine would get here in time if i order them...
oh and what paragraph do we state the theme?
Conclusion is the mimesis - with a real-life example...
Theme should be in the thesis and par 4...
and I heard that people who ordered the book online (b/c the stores are out of them) from B&N.com got them within 28 hours.
hope this helps!
yea... kelly i ordered mine sunday night and it was at my house on tuesday and I didn't pay any extra shipping fees.
for the introduction, can it just be whatever format we want or does it need to be REACT?
Miss Arney, i went to Barnes and Noble.com and i typed in the ISBN number into the search bar and it said results cannot be found and i tried everything else...wait didnt you mention another website in class?
Try copying and pasting this link into your browser:
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Dr-Jekyll-and-Mr-Hyde/Robert-Stevenson/e/9781419542275/?itm=1
Miss Arney,
For the essay, do we have to write a critical lens essay, or do we just have to react the introduction?
Miss Arney,
I just realized something about the quote in the introduction of the essay.
Tommy: REACT in the intro; it's not a critical lens essay.
Caitlin: any quote -- not from the play!
Maria: Most of the back story is related in the play (in the 4th episode), so it would count as a concrete detail.
What about the anagnorisis, peripeteia, catharsis, and catastrophe? Do we actually need to use those words in our essays?
okay, good.. because I tried to find one from the play and it made NO sense.. thanks!
Maria:
I'm so sorry! YOu don't need to DEFINE them, but using the terms would not be a bad idea...and, no, you don't need to use ALL of the terms.
It's okay! Thanks (and sorry I ask so many questions!) :)
oh thanks miss arney that link helped i ordered it! it should be in soon...thanks :)
Can we make the quote the first sentance of the intro?
sorry "sentence" lol
Kelli: I'm so glad!
Kieran: yes; and treat it like a REACT
ok thanks
YAY!!!!!!
I GOT MY JEKYLL AND HYDE BOOK!!!!!
ohh... and miss arney
when is the vocab test?
my jekyl and hyde book still is not in...what am i gonna do?
all we have do this weekend is read chapter 1 and answer the study guide questions ?
miss arney...
do we have to know chapter two for the test too???
do we have to read chapter 2 before tomorrow and answer the study guide questions?
Not everyone got the vocab cards back and idk if im ready for the quiz i have reviewed when i looked at the words today i drew blanks could it be monday to give us the weekend to truely know the words and so people can get there cards.
Justin: All of the cards that had names on them were returned; the others are in the "orphan" drawer.
In addition, you have the vocab book and the yellow flashcards. You know this test has been coming (and postponed) for several weeks, so I am really do not want to postpone it again.
For the daily reflection how would we do a commentary for some of the concrete details for similarities and differences?
The commentary would be the analysis or explanation of the lines of poetry...does this help?
Okay I am really confused...when is everything due? When are the novel notes and vocab due? I am hearing different due dates from different people haha.
Kelli:
I'm going to put a homework schedule up on the website.
yes thank you so much
Okayy thanks!
When is the vocab due?
i just have a question... the vocab FC and sentences were not on the temp hw schedule. WHen are they due?
do we have homework in the introduction to shakespeare and shakespearean tragedy? page 7? the prologue of romeo and juleit? are we supposed to do anything with them?
All you needed to do with the Prologue is to figure out the rhyme scheme and see if it meets the iambic pentameter pattern.
Does patrarch use iambic pentameters too?
thank you miss arney...
if i met with you today (tuesday) do i need to have my essay in by thursday or friday?
Friday; Thursday for +5
up till what questions are we supposed to do in the R&J study guide?
for the novel noted it says you have to have more than one symbol, what are other ones, so far i can only think of the plague
miss arney...
can we use "You" or "Your" in our creative excuse essay?
Melissa:
Up to question 19 I think (just before Romeo enters)
Yena: Absolutely. This should be a letter to me from you and should be a personal experience.
Katie: symbols and motifs might go together here: like blindness and sight; truth and light vs darkness and ignorance.
my essay is hilarious (personally- i think). but it's not a personal experience. i would die if this really happened. enjoy!!!
you should read the first paragraph when you are collecting the homework. i think you will enjoy it.
when is the memorization of the passages from R&J due and when is the journal due?
Yena:
I cannot wait.
Melissa: the R&J recitations are due at the end of April; the prepositions are due by next Tuesday.
And the journal is due on Friday.
Hope this helps
yes it does thank-you!
I think you will like my journal!
Miss Arney did u get my essay?
Miss Arney...
are we going to have an ultimate lingo game or a chance to win a lot of b-squares?
if so... when would that be?
I just want to be clear.. we can use first person for the journal right?
Absolutely!
can you just remind me what the hw is over the weekend please?
STUDY for grammar test
Read I iii in RJ
okay thank you
Miss Arney,
I was just wondering if you could put up a grammar challenge for over break please....
miss arney...
can we come tomorrow after school to site the prepositions?
do they still count as extra credit even though i sited them once?
Nicole: No problem, you Diagramming Champion.
Yena: Yes; final day for prepositions in the 3rd quarter is tomorrow.
ok.... see you tomorrow...
^^*
did you read the creative essay yet?
let me know when you do. all of the stories i have heard are hilarious so far.
the most important thing is to hand in their english homework...
who cares about their house burning down or their friends is collapsed in the street...
haha... okay...
see you tomorrow.
hahaha thanks for the new title miss arney
miss arney, are you going to put up the homework for break? because i don't want to miss anything
Yep! Melissa it's there right now. The grammar challenge will be posted before the day is through.
Thanks for keeping me focused; I've been obsessed with reading and rereading the draft of Midnight Sun online -- I have to refocus on school now!
Miss Arney,
Sorry to bother you... I was just wondering if you put up the grammar challenge, because I can't see it and I don't know if it' my computer or it's really not there.
ok thanks
Miss Arney,
i am having a lot of trouble with the direct/indirect object homework. i wasa wondering if you could have extra help tomorrow after school...
Miss Arney,
Sorry to bother you but would you be able to put a romeo and juliet and jekyll and hyde blog spot because i have some questions and i will probably encounter some more while reading.
I have a question about DR1 for Romeo and Juliet... Are the two characteristics the same for everyone because you said the 2 most obvious, or is it the two most obvious ones to us?
There is no correct answer for this; the two most obvious to you.
ok thanks
could you say that being love struck is a characteristic?
For the Romeo Daily reflection, what do you mean by use indirect characterization.
For the Romeo and Juliet daily reflection, what do you mean by indirect characterization?
for the R&J daily reflection what do you mean by use indirect characterization?
Indirect Characterization: characterization revealed by what the character says, does, and what others say about him/ her.
Yes, I think "love-struck" works!
Miss Arney... 2 things...
Can you put up a Random Musings Q4 because this one is so far back and is getting really long.
Also, can i still buy a video of Sugar, my mom couldnt get out to the lobby during the show and I keep forgetting to ask you in class.
quick question... are we allowed to use i in the DR? for DR4 it says what would you classify it as... can we say, "I would classify it as a ...."
Don't use "I"; just classify it (JH earns the classification of _____)
The new RM Q4 is now up so you don't have to dig for it :-)
