Please use this forum to collaborate with each other if you are having difficulty with the text or the study guide. While I do not want you COPYING each other's answers, you may help each other with particularly complex passages or questions. I will be checking our blogsite frequently to offer assistance.
When you finish the text, you may want to consider the following questions. Feel free to comment or add your own points to ponder:
1. Compare and contrast Creon & Oedipus. What are their essential character traits? What textual evidence do you have to support this?
2. Does Sophocles believe in prophecy and fate?
3. What is Oedipus's fundamental hamartia?
4. What did you think of his final moments with his daughters / sisters?

but i can understand why the author drew them that way...
i think oedipus took the truth alot better than jocasta did.
Strophe I and Antistrophe I on page 47... who are they talking to? what god are they praying to? are they just praying to any or every god? are there any importance in what they are saying?
how would i answer question 9 for the fourth episode. and do we have questions for the epilogue? my packet only ends on the fifth choral ode question 5...
does any body else's do that?
Yena: My packet ends there too
Really? It stops at the Epilogue?!?!
I'm going to post the Epilogue questions on our website. Thank you, ladies, for letting me know!
Is it manditory to complete the study guide before tomorrow?...Does the whole things have to be completed?
No, Melissa. I'm not collecting the study guide; HOWEVER, if you were to have an open-study guide quiz, would you be able to do well? The idea of the study guide is to..well, GUIDE you to make certain you understand what the reading is about.
I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

Do the shepherd and messenger have any connection other than the passing of Oedipus to each other?
Also, do we know the names of the messenger and shepherd?
I don't know if there is anything anyone can do to help me or if I'm just reading it wrong or thinking too hard, but I am having difficulty with the choral odes. I have trouble finding who they are talking about and what the moods are.
OK: Sorry I'm so late responding; just got home from school....
No; annoyingly enough, the shepherd & messenger are just known by that (and remember, their roles were reversed in the "back story).
Nicole: Don't worry about the odes right now; we will be reviewing them, ok?!~?!??!?!?!

ok thanks miss arney!
I'm confused on who rules where. Does Lauis rule in Corinth? And are Merope and Polybus king and Queen of somewhere?
Laius is / was king of Thebes; Polybus and Merope are ruling in Corinth.
Okay thank you
