These sonnets are really confusing. Is Petrarch talking about someone he was in love with?
Im confused too. Is Petrarch describing someone hes in love with and is Shakespeare describing someone he doesnt truely love?
I think they are talking about nature and how both of them are in love with it for different reasons. I think Shakespeare is using a woman to embody the essence of nature. I could be making that up though!
I think that both of them are talking about love, but Petrarch is describing someone he loves who is beautiful while Shakespeare is describing someone who isn't as beautiful. Shakespeare is saying that in order to have real love, the person you are in love with does not need to be beautiful. Both Petrarch and Shakespeare use nature to compare their lover to.
do we need to have 3 concrete details from the sonnets for each paragraph or can it just be a statement like...both sonnets have stressed and unstressed syllables?
ok... what exactly do we have to write about in the daily reflection? Do we have to give a theme for each sonnet? Do we just have to describe the main idea of each? I'm so confused!!!

Because of the confusion, I am giving you until Wednesday to turn in your daily reflection. I wanted to give you guys a chance to "talk" it out before I got involved in the discussion. Yes, they are both love sonnets. Petrarch wrote it for a woman he saw in church (yes, a little over the top?!?!?). Melissa: your analysis isn't completely wrong: why would you think Shakespeare doesn't really love the woman? That's the point he is trying to make (look at Maria's comment - except, I think you are viewing Shakespeare a little too harshly in his view of his love).
Structure the daily as a comparison / contrast. Find a similar element of literary elements or devices for your topic sentence and go from there. Good luck.

oh! ok I am understanding it better now...so Petrarch saying hes in love with a beautiful person..and Shakespeare saying hes in love with someone that isnt pretty but he still loves her?

oh...one more thing... how do we find the style of the sonnets? What is it asking for when it says "style"?
